INTRODUCTION

Travel may be a thrilling and eye-opening adventure. It's easy to get swept up in the excitement of a new journey. However, while you're abroad, don't forget to consider travel security and safety.

You make a lot of travel blunders in the beginning.

Missed buses, irresponsible behaviour, cultural ignorance, and a slew of other minor blunders have all contributed to the development of travel savvy Then one day, like a fish to water, you'll be gliding through airports and integrating into many cultures.

I want to help you save time and avoid making the same mistakes I do, so I put up this massive list of my greatest travel advice that covers everything under the sun to help you achieve your maximum travel potential.

These travel tips will help you save money, get a better night's sleep, go off the beaten path more, meet locals, and be a better traveller in general.

1)Do your research

Learn everything there is to know about your destination before you leave. For information on the safest neighbourhoods, places to stay, and crime rates, read visitor reviews and speak with locals. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and keep up with country developments on the State Department's website (STEP).

Another important travel security strategy is knowing who to call in an emergency. Find out how to call your local embassy or consulate, as well as the police station and other emergency services.

2)Always bring a towel with you

It's both the key to intergalactic hitchhiking success and common sense. You never know when you'll need it, whether it's at the beach, on a picnic, or just to dry off. Even if many hostels supply towels, you never know, and a little towel won't add much weight to your backpack.

3)Make duplicates of critical documents

You never know when you'll be asked for a copy of your passport, driver's licence, or other piece of identification. Scanning these papers will allow you to save them online and print multiple copies. That way, if you need to return home, you won't have to rush to get the necessary documents.

4)Purchase a compact backpack or suitcase

If you acquire a small backpack (about 35/40 litres), you'll be forced to pack light and avoid carrying too much items. Because people have a natural urge to fill space, if you pack small but have a lot of extra luggage space, you'll find yourself thinking, "Well, I guess I can take more," and then regretting it.

5)Inform your friends and family

Whether you're going on an overnight excursion or a month-long foreign journey, it's usually a good idea to let friends or relatives back home know where you're going. Before you leave, provide a printout of your itinerary to a few trusted people who can keep track of your location. Make frequent contact with your contacts to ensure that they are aware of your whereabouts.

6)Keep an eye on your hotel room

There are actions you can take to make your room safer, even if your hotel has strong security measures in place. Close your windows and lock and deadbolt your door.. You can purchase a jammer, which is a little gadget that fits under the door and adds an extra layer of security.

Place a Do Not Disturb sign on the outside of your door and close the blinds or windows to give the idea that you're in your room even when you're not.

Do not let strangers inside your room, even if they claim to be from the hotel. You can always phone the front desk to inquire if a hotel staff has dispatched someone.

7)Take an extra bank and credit card with you

It's usually a good idea to have a back-up card in case you're robbed or misplace one. You don't want to be trapped in a strange place without your money. A card was once copied and kept under lock and key for me. For the remainder of my journey, I was unable to use it. I was overjoyed that I had an extra, unlike my friend, who didn't and was often borrowing money from me!

8)Pay attention to your surroundings

If you want to take the perfect photo for your social media platforms, don't let your guard down. Always keep an eye on your belongings and proceed with caution when interacting with strangers. Meeting new people and learning about other cultures is one of the most rewarding elements of travelling. However, if someone close to you is acting suspiciously or you are uncomfortable, leave the area right away.

These recommendations can help you travel safely, but no matter how many precautions you take, the unexpected can always happen. With Nationwide travel insurance, you'll be safe and secure no matter where you go.

9)Don't be hesitant to consult a map

Being mistaken for a tourist isn't as awful as getting completely lost and ending up in the incorrect area. When interacting with strangers, always keep an eye on your stuff and proceed with care. You are, after all, one! I always have a map with me when I go. It will help you arrive to your destination!

10)Don't buy a money belt; they're a waste of money.

Thieves are aware that they exist, and being seen with one screams, "Look at me, I'm a tourist with cash!" "Take advantage of me!" It will be easier to find deals and avoid touts if you can blend in and seem like a local. If you're worried about pickpockets, keep a closer eye on your belongings.

11)Always keep a lock on your person

They're useful, especially if you're in a dorm and need to lock up your belongings. Bring a small combination lock with you when you travel. If you use one with keys, you'll be screwed if the keys are lost!

12)Learn some simple phrases in your destination's native tongue

The locals will appreciate it, and it will make your interactions with them easier. You don't need to be fluent in the language to get along with the locals, but knowing a few phrases like "Hello," "Goodbye," "Thank you!" and "Where is the bathroom?" will go a long way toward making friends. They'll appreciate your effort.

13)Pack as little as possible

It is okay to wear the same t-shirt numerous days in a row. Take half of what you think you're going to need... You won't need nearly as much as you think. Make a list of what you'll need, reduce it in half, and bring that! Plus, as I already indicated, if you get a little backpack, you won't have much room for other goods!
