On October 2, 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched as a statewide movement spanning the length and breadth of the country. By October 2nd, 2019, the initiative hopes to realise its goal of a "Clean India." The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the government of India's most important cleanliness campaign.
Clean India and Green India are two major initiatives established by India in response to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which serve as the benchmark for a sustainable development agenda. The Indian government has also created a programme called "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" to achieve the same goal.
Cleaning is important in all aspects of our life, including our homes, businesses, and public spaces. It is one of the most essential civilisational prerequisites. The slogan "cleanliness is godliness" was coined by our nation's father, and our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swachh Bharat Mission, which was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. As a result, Mahatma Gandhi's logo inspired the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Green India component entails preserving the country's natural beauty and safeguarding its flora. The main objectives of this component are to increase the country's forest or tree cover to over 5 million hectares and to improve ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and storage. The Green India component's ultimate goal is to lessen the country's growing air pollution.
Speaking in Hindi, Mr Modi added, "Bapu gave us the message to 'Quit India. Clean India,' but his 'Clean India' goal is still unfulfilled. Mahatma Gandhi's round-rimmed glasses are featured in the winning graphic, and Mr Modi said, "When I saw that image, I felt as though Gandhiji were gazing at us through those spectacles to check if we have made India clean yet." On the occasion of Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary, he urged his fellow citizens to present a clean India as a gift. I'm sure Clean India will bring us just as much delight as Quit India,' he asserted.
Mr Modi remarked that the mission should be motivated by patriotism rather than politics in an effort to establish a non-political tone. "I don't claim that our recently elected government has taken all necessary steps to improve sanitation. I salute all governments that came before me, including union and state governments, corporations, and nonprofit organisations, he stated. He asserted that sanitation personnel shouldn't be the only ones responsible for cleanliness. However, no non-BJP leaders were seen at the event.
Mr Modi encouraged locals to take pictures of trash, post them on social media, upload videos of them cleaning the site, and ultimately upload a photograph of the spot once it was cleaned, in addition to crowdsourcing the Mission's logo and tagline. In addition, he nominated another nine people—Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, Congressman Shashi Tharoor, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, actors Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Kamal Haasan, businessman Anil Ambani, yoga instructor Baba Ramdev, and the cast of the TV show Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chashma—to join him in his cleanliness mission.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan's goal
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, according to the government, strives to achieve not only overall cleanliness but also waste management and open excretion issues, which are impeding the country from progressing.
Eliminating open defecation, converting filthy toilets, manual scavenging, and 100% ejection and reuse of solid and liquid waste are among the mission's key goals. The country will be completely clean in this manner.
If India becomes entirely clean and green, it will gain various benefits.
- According to this, the largest number of private investors will invest in India, boosting the country's GDP while also increasing tourism and employment.
- Our Prime Minister has asked that everyone in the country donate 100 hours of cleaning every year to keep the country clean and beautiful.
