Managing mental health when working from home

Before the coronavirus, I was a professor who frequently worked from home. My friends would make fun of me for my everyday routine (such as enjoying a morning gin and not changing out of my pyjamas). But the truth is entirely different, as many people have come to realise. Working from home might be difficult at times.

Ways to Self-manage mental health when working from home

1. Establish and maintain a routine

It might be challenging to maintain distinct boundaries between work and personal time without established habits. Maintain your regular sleeping and working hours, if you can.

2. Maintain relationships with others

If your workplace offers workflow platforms as a means of contact, take advantage of them to keep up a level of communication that keeps you from feeling alone. Make sure to contact friends and family after work hours or join an online community to avoid feeling lonely if your workplace isn't very sociable or your profession doesn't need interaction.

3. Take a break for yourself

It's crucial to schedule breaks in order to handle feelings of stress. To feel more concentrated when you return, try to take regular screen breaks, break for lunch, and give yourself time to focus on anything else. Your productivity can benefit greatly from taking brief breaks every hour, even if they only last 5 to 10 minutes.

4. Consider practising mindfulness or meditation

A part of sustaining excellent mental health is taking care of our spirits. An excellent method to lessen the strains of working from home is to engage in an activity that relaxes and serves as a reminder to breathe.
